Kia’s new electric MPV, expected to be priced from ₹16 lakh, will feature a 51.4 kWh battery option delivering a 490 km range, alongside a 42 kWh option.

Kia will launch its first mass-market electric vehicle in India, the Carens Clavis EV, on July 15, 2025, with a starting price of around ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom), and has now released vital performance specs. The EV is projected to have two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The latter claims to have a range of up to 490 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle is most likely powered by the same single-motor setup as the Hyundai Creta EV, which generates 171 horsepower and 255 Newton-meters of torque through the front axle.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV price range will be disclosed on the day of its debut, and it is likely to retain a lot of the design features of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the newly launched 2025 Kia Carens Clavis, but with EV-specific upgrades. It will compete primarily with the BYD eMax 7 for a significant share of India’s rapidly expanding EV market.

A spy video hints at a charging port neatly positioned at the center of the front fascia, as well as slight changes to the front bumper and a blanked-off grill. It also features a new silver garnish below the charging flap and redesigned ice-cube LED fog lamps. The side profile will include new aero-style dual-tone alloy wheels for increased efficiency, while the rear will be characterized by connected LED taillamps, EV badging, and a revised bumper.

The electric model is also expected to include a new color palette and will have the same dashboard layout as the ICE version, but with a different color theme. The center console now features a new floating design with a reworked tunnel layout, offering better storage space and a new wireless charging pad. There’s also a large cubby hole and a dedicated space for mobile phone storage.

There will be both 6-seater (with captain seats) and 7-seater (with bench seats) models, though the teaser has only shown the 7-seater version so far. The Carens Clavis EV is expected to feature a digital key and a power-adjustable co-driver seat with a “boss mode.” The second row captain seats may also incorporate ventilated seats. Significantly, as an EV, it will be capable of both vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging.

Carens Clavis features such as dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, heated front seats, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system are expected to be retained. Dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and a two-spoke steering wheel are further notable features. Six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems are among the safety features.
